Salmoneus is the ancient Greek version of a traveler dealer. He always has an angle, and never fails to take advantage of a situation. He is also noted for being the composer of Xena's theme music.

History

Salmoneus on Hercules

On Hercules, Salmoneus is an important character – in fact, after Hercules and Iolaus, is the character with the most appearances.

Salmoneus first meets Hercules when he is being attacked by a cyclops, and since then have remained good friends. Salmoneus helps Hercules in many situations, such as at the time when Hercules is blinded and needs to face the Centaurs. Salmoneus is also with Hercules during their fight against Xena, and then with Hercules and Xena in the fight against Darphus. Later, Salmoneus helps Hercules create the Olympic Games: Salmoneus himself created the name and the Olympic torch in tribute to the Games.

Salmoneus on Xena

On Xena, Salmoneus appears in a total of three episodes.

He helps Xena discover who is named The Black Wolf, and helps Xena and others during the escape from the dungeon of the king Xerxes. Later, Salmoneus sells weapons to a warrior (weapons of poor material and melt in contact with the rain) – Salmoneus now being hunted has to be saved by Xena. Later, Salmoneus appears as a speaker for a Beauty Contest in the name of peace... but, of course, he is interested only in money.
